Quick guide
How to use the Compound Interest Calculator
Calculate how your investments grow over time with compound interest. See the power of compounding with our free calculator that shows future value, total interest earned, and growth charts.
- Start with what you already have invested, or 0 if you are starting from scratch.
- Add what you can contribute every month: consistency moves the result more than the starting amount.
- For a long-term stock market estimate, 7% a year is a common, realistic assumption.
- Set the horizon in years: compounding does most of its work in the final stretch.
- Check the split between what you contributed and what the interest earned: that gap is compounding.

Methodology
How this calculator works
Built by Andrés Soler · Updated
Formula
- Monthly compounding: every month, balance = balance × (1 + r ÷ 12) + monthly contribution
- Yearly compounding: every year, balance = balance × (1 + r) + 12 × monthly contribution
Assumptions & limits
- r is the annual rate you enter and stays constant for the whole period.
- Contributions are added at the end of each period, so a new deposit starts earning in the following period.
- Taxes, fees and inflation are not deducted. Use the Real ROI calculator to see results in today’s money.
